Reflections

Today’s going to be another non-fashion post. Just me, my thoughts and some pictures without make-up, filter or retouch. Let me tell you why!

Imagine yourself scrolling through Instagram for example and suddenly you see a picture of a girl in a swimsuit. But the picture is not very flattering. You can see her so-called „problem areas“ and her skin doesn’t look as smooth as we are used to see it on pictures in our devices… What do you do? Are you secretly judging her? Or are you comparing yourself with her? Maybe you think „Whew, my skin doesn’t look as bad“ or „Actually her thighs look bigger than mine“. And please know, I’m not judging you if you would have these thoughts! I did the same. But the other day the following happened to me and I started to reflect myself.

So, I saw a similar picture to the one I just described and then I read the caption of it. The girl said something about self-love and that she wanted to show the „real life version“ of her. No retouch. No filter. No make-up. Suddenly the picture meant so much more to me and I loved it.

And then I was confused why didn’t I like the picture that much before? Is it because it suddenly goes under a different name (at least in my mind) or maybe because I knew a little more about the story behind the picture? I got to know her a bit more… it became personal.

That’s when I came to realize how a story behind something can change so much! How quickly we all judge about something without knowing all the facts.

The „trend“ about self-love got bigger over the last decade. Being kind to yourself… to your mind and your body. I think this is a very important and healthy attitude. But with it should come the value of being kind to others as well!
